RACHEL OLSON is a writer and director known for crafting relatable comedy mined from the absurdity of human existence. Her latest short, The Nickname (starring Mary Holland), is a semi-improvised comedy that explores the joys and cruelties of female friendship. The film premiered at Aspen Shortsfest, had its West Coast premiere at Dances With Films, and continues its festival run
Before stepping behind the camera, Rachel helped shape acclaimed series including Workaholics, Nathan For You, Detroiters, and Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens during her tenure as a development executive at Comedy Central.
Rachel recently shadowed legendary director Bobcat Goldthwait and is currently working on a proof-of-concept for her debut feature screenplay.
The Nickname
The Nickname is a comedic short film about a bachelorette party that gets derailed when one bridesmaid learns she has a terrible nickname. Starring Mary Holland (Nightbitch, Ghosts) and an ensemble of improvisers who met at the Upright Citizens Brigade, the short is written by Sydney O’Toole (creator of Comedy Central’s Road to Hollygrove) and directed by Rachel Olson (exec on Nathan for You, Detroiters, Awkwafina is Nora From Queens).
Olson and O’Toole are currently in development on a feature adaptation of the short, which explores the complicated dynamics of longtime female friend groups.
